Halfway Point
When I was stationed at Fort Carson in the Army, I lived in Manitou Springs and climbed the Manitou Incline once. This painting reflects exactly how it felt—lungs burning, legs failing, the ground refusing to level out. The skeletons crawl, stumble, and slide because that's the truth of it. There's no hero shot here.
The title marks the cruel joke of the climb: halfway isn't relief, it's realization. You're committed, exhausted, and still not done. The mountain doesn't care about motivation or mindset; it just keeps going.
This piece isn't about conquering anything. It's about limits. About listening to your body. About learning, very clearly, when "once" is enough.
Lesson learned.
